Case Study :: Travel Alberta Buzzer Desktop Marketing

CHALLENGE
How do you communicate with members of the Travel & Tourism industry who are keen to keep up on the latest marketing news and information they need to effectively management their departments and their careers?
STRATEGY
SDMG designed and built a live desktop application known as Buzzer that resides directly on the computer screens of marketing managers in the Travel & Tourism industry. Buzzer provides real-time access to industry news, marketing opportunities, holiday card promotions and industry learning opportunities such as workshops and conferences.
APPROACH
SDMG was already aware of the Travel & Tourism industry appetite for news and information as a result of managing the existing weekly Buzz email newsletter program. The Buzzer application simply takes the concept of delivering timely information a step further by delivering it real-time (instead of on a regular schedule) and delivering it right to the users own computer desktop, regardless of whether or not they are on the web or checking email at the time. The computer desktop really is the proverbial 'holy grail' of interactive communication.
RESULTS
Within the first few weeks, more than 1/3 of active travel & tourism industry marketing professions in Alberta are already active users of the Buzzer application. As well, more are coming on-line each day. Regular usage of the application has been extremely high, due in part to the fact that alerts 'pop-up' on the users desktop when updated news and information is available. Industry feedback has been very positive and additional features and upgrades are already in the planning stages for next year.
